I was thrilled that the brilliant Marian Heckenberg and Camerata performed my Double Bass Concertino at their 2026 Season Opener “Classic Alchemy”.
Limelight Magazine’s Gillian Wills writes, “Soloist Marian Heckenberg, in Michael Patterson’s Concertino for Double Bass and String Orchestra, was a crowd-pleaser. It is always a pleasure to hear instruments other than violin and piano featured in solo roles. Patterson’s skilful writing enabled the bass to be clearly heard, often against plucked ensemble passages.”
Late 2024 I got to work with Daniel O’Brien on a couple of tracks for the Bluey album “Rug Island”.
OK, this was one of the most exciting and fun performing experiences of my life – playing with Bill Bailey the brilliant comedian and musician as part of his 2024 Australian Tour.
After a photoshoot with Chris Hemsworth (see here), renowned Australian photographer, David Collins was a looking for a cherry to put on top of his portfolio. There was really only one group hot enough! Check out the great new shots.
Woah! What a thrill it was to conduct the orchestra at the NRL Grand Final this year. Great orchestra, with great arrangements by George Ellis. Fantastic solo performances by William Barton, Kate Miller Heidke and Ian Moss.
Trey Spruance’s composition for the Kronos Quartet’s “50 For The Future” is seriously cool. Check out our recording!
Pieza de Paronella Recording by Camerata!
Thank you Camerata and Geoff McGahan for this stunning recording of my piece. I am truly honoured.
